Even with Valentine’s Day over for another year, February is still a great time to discuss love, relationships and sugar. Each morning before the kids get up, Joan and I set aside time for coffee and Bible study. We both sit at the kitchen counter and if something pops up we want to discuss, we do. It serves as our breakfast, a spiritually and emotionally filling way to begin the day. I usually have some white noise going on an app on my phone as a means to cut down on distractions. I like to use Calm: Meditation to Relax, Focus & Sleep… at Calm.com, which, incidentally is where I got the picture to grace this particular blog. It seemed especially appropriate near Valentine’s Day, when we exchange metric tons of sugar products and engage in some trivial bonding. But real relationships are something more than the equivalent of a handful of Peanut M&M’s®. Real connections leave you feeling better for long periods of time. They leave you healthier. They allow you to take on new things with energy and a great attitude. The lust of the sugar fix is alluring and it is easy to dip your hand into the candy jar, but eventually, you need something more. Here’s praying you have someone like that in your life, or will at some point in the future!
